"The Screw Was Stripped So I Just Replaced The Whole Thing" (BBSCOOT Saga 2/4)

ree

This one's a bit of a doozy. So about three days after getting my baby back, I was on my way to work and while stopped at a light, it just kinda turned off... and wouldn't turn back on. After talking to my Dad, we decided it was the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). We ordered one and parked the car in the driveway. So it was back to the BRZ for me. Flash forward a week, my Dad replaced the IACV the car ran again, but not smoothly. It drove fine but when it was stopped, it kept jolting forward and made a horrible noise. Never turned off though so that was something. However, I could tell there was still something wrong. Thinking it was just a bad part, we parked it again and started over: returned the IACV, ordered a new one, and replaced it again. This time, the car wouldn't even start.

I threw my hands up. I was moving in less than a month and had no running car and no clue what was wrong with it. In a hopeful attempt to get a better diagnosis, I took the car to my dad's mechanic, Riley, who does all of the work on our cars that my dad and I can't do (usually because we need a lift or just don't have enough knowledge or time to get it done. Side Note: Riley has taught me and my Dad so much about fixing our cars, he always tells us exactly what he did and how he did it). After having the car for about two days, Riley got back to us and said it wasn't actually the IACV. It was the Screw in the Distributor wasn't catching and was completely stripped. So he just replaced the whole thing.
